Discover Thornton: Denver’s Northern Community
As a real estate agent knowledgeable about Denver’s vibrant suburbs, I’m pleased to feature the city of Thornton. Conveniently located north of downtown, Thornton offers a peaceful residential feel with plentiful parks, recreation, dining, and shopping.
History of Thornton
Thornton’s early beginnings trace to railroad worker Sam Thornton, who settled in the area in 1871. The small farming community was incorporated as the city of Thornton in 1956. Rapid suburban development occurred from the 1970s through 1990s. Once surrounded by farmland, Thornton is now the state’s sixth largest city with over 140,000 residents.
Thornton spans the northeast Denver metro area, easily accessed via I-25, Highway 36, Highway 287, and I-76. Its proximity to Denver allows enjoying amenities just 20 minutes south, while more open spaces exist to the north. Residents rave about the community’s sunlight-filled days and views of the Front Range.
Thornton offers diverse housing options across numerous family-friendly neighborhoods. Downtown historic homes offer vintage charm. Mid-century neighborhoods built in the 1960s – 80s feature ramblers and two-story style homes. Home prices range from around $350,000 to over $600,000.
